My husband brought back many Japanese food, and this is one of them. This is a bag of rice to make mochi. It's sticker than sticky rice we usually have for meals. Mochi used to be very special food for Japanese people, as rice itself used to be precious thing, long time ago. We could have mochi only on auspicious occasions. Now it's much easier to find, though, mochi made from cooked mochi rice is something especial, nothing to compare with. I bought the bread maker last year. When I choose bread maker, I found Panasonic one has good reputation in UK so I could have one buying here, but I bought one in Japan and brought it back. The only reason is that the one manufactured in Japan has Mochi making option.

I can find mochi rice in Japanese supermarket but they are expensive so he brought this back. And to my deight, I found this pretty picture on it.But why bunnies are making mochi, you might think.

When you look at the moon, you can see a bit darker shade on the surface of the moon. Japanese people saw those as bunnies making mochi long long time ago. Ever since, the moon, bunny and mochi are inseparable things, especially when we have Tsukimi, moon gazing in the autumn, which is smiler to Chinese tradition, I suppose.

I hope I can have mochi this weekend. Yum.
